- A180 reconstruction: the concrete dual carriageway between Brocklesby Interchange and Barnetby Interchange is notorious for noise. It is listed for full reconstruction in the Government’s Road Investment Strategy (RIS3), as a key route to Immingham Docks and Grimsby.
- Network Rail hub: an £8.8 million maintenance delivery unit opened in June 2026. More than 100 staff from Grimsby, Barnetby and Scunthorpe teams are based there. Acoustic fencing was put in for neighbours.
- Barnetby Top lorry park: in December 2025 a planning inspector allowed outline permission for up to 200 HGV bays, a fuel station and two drive-thrus at M180 Junction 5, after North Lincolnshire Council had refused it. Residents and Elsham Parish Council had raised flooding, queues on the A180 slip road, and the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds.
- Elsham Tech Park: on 11 March 2026 North Lincolnshire Council granted outline permission for an AI data centre campus on farmland next to Elsham Wolds Industrial Estate, about a mile and a half from this interchange. Up to 15 data halls, about 1GW of IT load, construction talked about from 2027. National Highways has been looking at Barnetby Top and the A15. Outline permission is not a finished site. Power and traffic still have to be faced here, in Elsham and in Brigg.
- Asylum support: Barnetby sits in North Lincolnshire. The Home Office figure is 87 people on support for the whole council at 30 June 2026 — including Scunthorpe, which this branch does not cover. There is no official Barnetby-only number.
